Caledonian Customs is an owner-led residential remodeling and general contracting company in Johnson County, Kansas.
From the owner
Built from the trade up.
Christopher McEleny is a Scottish immigrant. He began his construction career in the Carpenters Union, completed a four-year union carpentry apprenticeship program, and worked professionally as a union carpenter.
He earned an associate degree in Construction Management and later worked for a large commercial general contractor, training as a superintendent and coordinating subcontractors and construction activities on multimillion-dollar projects.
That background is how this company is run: work planned before it starts, trades coordinated in the right order, and one person accountable for the result.
When COVID caused a furlough in 2020, he began remodeling neighbors' kitchens, including John's. That work grew into Caledonian Customs LLC, which has been operating since 2020.

The name

Caledonia is an ancient name for Scotland. It’s where I’m from, and it’s why the company carries the name.
The standard behind it is simple: build it once, build it square, and finish it to a level worth putting your name on. My years in the carpentry trade taught me the craft. Managing complex construction projects taught me the planning and coordination required to bring it all together.
That’s the standard I bring to every Caledonian Customs project.
How we work
Planned before it is started
Scope, schedule, selections, permits and any engineering required are settled in writing before demolition begins.
Structural capability
Removing load-bearing walls and changing layouts is part of what we do, with engineering coordinated through a licensed engineer where required.
Respect for an occupied home
Dust protection, a defined work zone, and cleanup at the end of the day. People live in these houses while we work in them.
